Greece School Budget
28 04 2008I have to admit, until I started paying property taxes I wasn’t paying much attention to the Greece school budget. Now, I guarentee you will see plenty in the blog.
This weekend we received a flyer from the school district with almost no information other than there would be a 3%+ increase in the budget, including administrative increases, but taxpayers would actually see a decrease in what they are paying. My first question, where is the additional revenue going to come from then? I am still searching for an answer (though I admit, I just started).
Recently it came to light that an audit found the district had wasted $3.5 Million dollars.
From the D&C article
The audit, released in its final form last week, found that a general lack of oversight by Greece’s past Boards of Education led to $2.5 million in overspending on a $120 million building project, more than $300,000 in extra compensation paid to departing administrators and the loss of about $560,000 in Medicaid revenue. The board’s inaction and failure to do its job, auditors said, allowed district officials to “run the district as they saw fit.”
Excepting the Medicaid issue, most items cited in the audit predate the terms of all nine sitting board members and current Superintendent Steven Achramovitch.
So my guess is, we aren’t going to see taxes lowered, budgets increased and the loss of $3.5 Million made up all at the same time. So my question stands “where is the money going to come from?”
